LeBron James Still Sulking About Losing in the NBA Finals

Fresh off being on the losing side for the fourth time in the NBA Finals, LeBron James doesn’t sound like he’s over the disappointment just yet, although from his words there doesn’t seem to be anything alluding to him leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers for a second time.

James posted a video through Bleacher Report which was pretty much him addressing Cavaliers fans five days after losing in game 6 at home to the Golden State Warriors. It comes more or less a year since announcing his return to the Cavaliers via a letter on Sport’s Illustrated.

It hurt to lose, and I’m still in a little funk right now, but I’m trying to work my way out of it. You know, for a team that’s first getting together, in our first year to be able to reach the Finals — not saying I’m happy with the results, but I’m proud of our guys. Just the growth that they had from the first day we walked in the gym to the other day, us losing, I’m proud of the guys and what they was able to accomplish.

Being back home is everything that I dreamed of, everything that I thought about. Being back with these fans, being back with this community, just being back here and trying to bring joy to this city, which deserves it. Bringing a sense of pride to this city, which deserves it.

Giving this city something to talk about, which they deserve. I’m bummed about the Finals for sure, but hopefully I can put our team in position once again to try to compete for a championship next year and year in and year out. That’s my goal, and my inspiration hasn’t changed.

James was on the losing side of the NBA Finals in 2011, his first year with the Miami Heat. That time, he didn’t have injuries to blame, but everyone knows that the 2015 version of the disappointment isn’t just about how good the Warriors are; there’s a lot of Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving injuries peppering the wounds in this occasion.

When the Heat were beaten by the Mavericks in 2011 after taking a 2-1 lead (something the Cavaliers had in this series as well), James pretty much shut himself in for a very long time, not knowing how to deal with the public turning against him and losing to a supposedly weaker team. He’s older, more accomplished and smarter now. It hurts to lose, and James isn’t love any more than he was four years ago, but handling such a let down is no longer a crisis. It is once again a stepping stone towards doing a little better next year.
