The drama over the potential trade of DeMarcus Cousins continues. It seems that George Karl is the only member of the Sacramento Kings staff, management and ownership who has any interest in making the deal. The Los Angeles Lakers? Denver Nuggets? The people who should be making the decision don’t even want to trade him, so what’s all the fuss about?

This is about as evasive as possible, and reading between the lines, which people always should do when trying to figure out what a sports personality is trying to say, it means that Karl isn’t exactly against not having Cousins, and isn’t denying that he’s been making pushes to trade him. How far has it actually gone? If it has gone as far as some suggest it has, it’s hard to understand how Karl still has a job.

Karl apparently really wants Ty Lawson and Kenneth Faried, and basically is trying to recreate the 2013 version of the Denver Nuggets, which did incredibly well during the regular season but lost in the first round of the playoffs. However, it seems Karl is alone in his wishes to try and completely change the Kings by dumping the team’s best player. The owner is against it and Vlade Divac is against it. It’s hard to see how Karl can pull it off.

Now, if Karl has been actually calling up teams and trying to work out the trades behind his own team’s back? It’s not just a matter of snake in the grass which Cousins alluded to on Twitter, and it’s been something that others who have played under Karl (Carmelo Anthony, J.R. Smith) have mentioned in the past. It’s more than a fireable offense, and it’s hard to understand how both Karl and Cousins can co-exist in the same working environment from now on.

So hypothetically, this becomes a matter of who the ownership is backing: Karl, or Cousins. If Karl is actually allowed to trade Cousins, which would mean going against the will of Divac which will also have interesting implications, the Los Angeles Lakers are the most interested party in the trade. Will they use their number two overall pick? That’s about the only asset they have worth moving.

The Orlando Magic and Boston Celtics would also be in the picture, but the biggest mention and shout out goes to the Denver Nuggets, with Lawson and Faried. The other option which is more of a low key and wouldn’t have been causing so many problems is moving Rudy Gay for Ty Lawson, or something of the sort. But it seems Karl is headstrong about trading Cousins, which could be one of those moves that tears a team apart for good.
