NBA teams have been waiting a long time for Alexander “Sasha” Kaun to finally decide on playing in the NBA. The rights to the Russian center are owned by the Cleveland Cavaliers, but both the San Antonio Spurs and the Brooklyn Nets are interested in acquiring those rights.

Kaun, 30, was the 56th overall pick in 2008 draft. He played four years of college basketball with Kansas, playing backup center during the 2008 champions season. From there he went back to Russia and played for CSKA Moscow.

He won five league titles with the Russian giants and gradually improved in his Euroleague performances. Last season he averaged a career high 9.9 points per game in 20.1 minutes a night.

He doesn’t offer much in terms of range and gets most of his points really close to the rim, but he’s an above average rim protector and a clever player in terms of positioning and making good decisions.

It’s not often a player who is 30 heads to the NBA, but Kaun probably decided it’s now or never for him. He won’t change the franchise that signs him, but he should be a helpful big man backup coming off the bench for limited minutes.
