All the Trades of Draft Day

All the Trades of Draft Day

There was promise for plenty of traded on the 2015 draft day but turns out Luke Ridnour getting moved around like some used piece of clothing was the most eventful thing besides mid-first round and second round picks getting traded. Usually they don’t really make a difference, although in a few years, we’re probably going to have a team or two feeling like they made a huge mistake by giving up on that one guy who ended up surprising everyone and making a huge difference.

There’s no doubt that Ridnour was the hero of draft day. He began it as a member of the Memphis Grizzlies after a day earlier he was traded from the Orlando Magic for the rights to Janis Timma. Then he was moved to the Charlotte Hornets from the Grizzlies, Matt Barnes moving in the opposite direction. But that’s not the end of it. Ridnour ends up on the Oklahoma City Thunder, traded along with a conditional 2016 pick for Jeremy Lamb.

The biggest trade in terms of names was the one a day before the draft, as the Portland Trail Blazers sent Nicolas Batum to the Charlotte Hornets, in exchange getting Gerald Henderson and Noah Vonleh. The rest of the trades were all about draft picks and very minor players moving around, although this doesn’t mean we’re not going to see something big (DeMarcus Cousins) happening pretty soon.
