NBA Rumors – Golden State Warriors Interested in Signing Marco Belinelli

After already playing for the Golden State Warriors at the beginning of his NBA career, Marco Belinelli might end up returning to the NBA champions in a different role after already winning a championship of his own.

Belinelli is coming off two years with the Spurs, including helping them win the 2014 NBA Finals. He averaged 9.2 points per game last season in a slightly smaller role, dealing with an injury that kept him out of 20 games.

The Italian shooting guard who can play some small forward is a 39.2% career shooter from beyond the arc. Except for one season, he has shot at least 37% in each of his seasons in the league, including 37.4% last year, which was quite the drop off compared to his career high 43% during the 2013-2014 season with the Spurs.

It’s hard to figure out right now what Role Belinelli might have with the Warriors, if he does sign. The team seems packed to the brim with quality players, even if Draymond Green walks in free agency.

It’s probably going to be more of a shooting guard position duty, although seeing how Steve Kerr played his guys in the NBA Finals, position won’t mean that much if Belinelli can do what he does best: Stretch the floor, make his shots and step it up in crunch time, which was especially evident during his one season with the Chicago Bulls.

While the Spurs do like Belinelli, the re-signings they have to attend to and their attempt to bring in a big fish like LaMarcus Aldridge might mean that they’re not planning on Belinelli returning for next season, or at least it’s not a top priority for them.
