If signing Andrea Bargnani is considered winning, the Brooklyn Nets beat the Sacramento Kings to sign the Italian big man.

Bargnani, who spent the last two years mostly injured on the New York Knicks, signed a two-year deal with the Nets, despite being offered more money by the Kings. Bargnani said he felt there was a better fit for him in Brooklyn, and it also means not moving across the country.

Bargnani isn’t doing this for the money anymore. The power forward, who was destined to have a stretch ‘4’ role in the Kings offense and might be in the same position only with more minutes for the Nets, knows that staying in the league and playing as many minutes as possible should be his goal, not taking the biggest contract possible. He made quite a lot of money during his years in Toronto, and isn’t out just for the highest bidder to sign him.

At his best Bargnani was averaging over 21 points per game for the Raptors, but was always lacking when it came to defense and rebounding, averaging just 4.8 in his career despite as a center or power forward, averaging over 30 minutes a night.

He missed more than half the games over the last two seasons in New York. In 2014-2015 he played in just 29 of them, averaging 14.8 points and 4.4 rebounds, hitting 36.6% of his 3-point shots.

With Thaddeus Young pegged to be the starter next to Brook Lopez, Bargnani will probably back both players up along with Thomas Robinson and give the Nets a different kind of big man, one that stretches the floor, although it’s a little bit far from the kind of basketball and vision Lionel Hollins often has.
