A lot of attention in another day of Summer League action in Las Vegas went to the game between the New York Knicks and the Los Angeles Lakers, and especially the team’s lottery picks, Kristaps Porzingis and D’Angelo Russell.
The Knicks won the contest 76-66 as the Lakers continue to look awful with their Summer League team consisting of a few players who are supposed to have key roles this upcoming season. The Knicks weren’t too hot, but had more to be happy about.
Porzingis got only 18 minutes on the court, but scored 9 points and showed once again a pretty good touch from different spots, a habit of getting to the free throw line and looking better than clueless defensively. Russell on the other hand continues to look a bit confused with the non-college style of basketball, turning the ball over eight times and finishing with 8 points. Jerian Grant scored 10 points for the Knicks.
The Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Milwaukee Bucks 94-87, who were led by 18 points from Rashad Vaughn and 16 by Sean Kilpatrick. The Cavs had D.J. Seeley lead the way with 14 points.
The New Orleans Pelicans beat the Brooklyn Nets 89-83 as Bryce Dejean-Jones scored 26 points and 20 came from Seth Curry, still trying to find himself a team in the NBA. Rondae Hollis-Jefferson looked good for the Nets with a team-high 18 points and 6 rebounds.
The Atlanta Hawks lost 84-74 to the D-League select team. Lamar Patterson scored 15 points to lead the Hawks. Justin Dentmon led the D-Leaguers with 15 points as well.
The Sacramento Kings won their contest with the Golden State Warriors 90-71, led by James Anderson who scored 17 points. Willie Cauley-Stein finished with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks although he did get called for five fouls in 17 minutes.
The Denver Nuggets beat the Miami Heat 86-83, led by 19 points from Ian Clark. Emmanuel Mudiay finished with 10 points and 8 assists but also turned the ball over five times. Shabazz Napier led the Heat with 20 points, while Justise Winslow had a quiet performance, playing just 12 minutes, taking one shot and scoring 3 points.
The Toronto Raptors beat the Houston Rockets 95-87, led by 19 points from Norman Powell. Glen Rice led the Rockets with 28 points while Montrezl Harrell finished with 15.
The Utah Jazz beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 91-82, led by 17 points from Jared Cunningham. Adreian Payne scored 18 to lead the Timberwolves, while number one pick Karl-Anthony Towns finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 9 personal fouls in 30 minutes.
