NBA Rumors – Houston Rockets & Dallas Mavericks Interested in Bringing Back Jason Terry

If Jason Terry re-signs with the Houston Rockets, it’ll be back to a successful relationship overall from last season. But there’s also the option of a more emotional return, to the Dallas Mavericks.

Terry will be turning 38 before the beginning of next season, but still has place in the league. He averaged 7 points per game while playing 21.3 minutes a night last season for the Rockets, spending most of the time as a point guard, although in Houston it doesn’t really matter what your position is – the ball is going to be in James Harden’s hands.

Terry, like Josh Smith, is currently considering offers from others while also having the option of coming back to Houston and trying to do a little bit better than last season. The Rockets lost in the conference finals to the Warriors in five games, with Terry starting in all 17 playoff games because of Patrick Beverley’s injury. He averaged 9.2 points per game in the postseason.

Terry isn’t pegged to be a starter next season, not with Beverley coming back. But he wasn’t going to be starting for the Dallas Mavericks, although it might be easier for him to get minutes, possibly playing more as a shooting guard behind Wesley Matthews.

Terry has played for five different NBA teams in his career, but his longest tenure was in Dallas, playing for the Mavericks from 2004 until 2012, initially as a starter and then a sixth man. He helped the team make two NBA finals, winning the title in 2011.

After averaging just 4.5 points a night in his season with the Nets (2013-2014) many thought Terry was on his way out of the NBA, but last year with the Rockets, helped by Beverley’s injury, he showed he’s still a useful scorer in certain roles, and can stay a little bit longer in the league.
