It’s clearly pleasing to win 1-0 for Manchester United against Mexican Club America with a debut (friendly) goal for signee Morgan Schneiderlin, but defensively there were some worrying moments, maybe due to the mystery absence of David de Gea.
Schneiderlin made an impact in the match quickly, scoring off an Juan Mata assist after only five minutes, as Manchester United quickly established dominance early and were unlucky not to have an early lead that was greater than one goal.
However, on the back side, picked to be once again the team’s weak spot, Luke Shaw (Especially) and others struggled, and were lucky to have some offside decisions go their way and let them off the hook.
Matteo Darmian and Memphis Depay also made an appearance in the lineup. Depay was the most dangerous player on the pitch for Manchester United, playing without De Gea. The official reason? Minor injury, but don’t be surprised if he’s closer and closer to completing a move to Real Madrid.
The second half was less eventful and both clubs had a few chances to feel frustrated with. All in all not the most impressive of performances from the Red Devils, but it’s only mid-July, and a goal from a new player is never something to feel bad about.
