It’s that time of year for teams to start shopping their best upcoming free agents. One unlikely team doing it is the Detroit Tigers, not used to being so far from the top of the AL Central, looking to get something out of pitcher David Price and outfielder Yoenis Cespedes.

No offers for the two yet, and it looks like the Tigers aren’t 100% sure they want to move them. They’re still in the wild card race (46-46), 9.5 games behind the Royals in their division (third in the division) and four games behind the Houston Astros for the Wild Card spot. A team that’s finished on top of the AL Central four years in a row isn’t used to making these kind of decisions.

But while they’re waiting for Miguel Cabrera to come back from his injury, the Tigers need to pull the trigger on these moves, if they’re getting the right kind offers. There are less than two weeks to make this happen, and in baseball, a sport where injuries are waiting just around the corner for pitchers and sluggers alike, time can’t be wasted figuring things out.

Price was in the All-Star game for the fifth time of his career, posting a 9-3 record with a 2.32 ERA, the best numbers of his career since becoming a full-time starting pitcher. Cespedes, playing for the Tigers in his first season on the team after the trade with the Boston Red Sox, is hitting a very solid .289 while hitting 13 home runs and 52 RBIs, leading the league in doubles with 27.
