MLB Rumors – Toronto Blue Jays Interested in Signing Dan Haren

The Toronto Blue Jays are trying to catch up with the leaders in the AL East or cover up the ground they need to make up in the Wild Card race. That means they’re buyers as the trade deadline approaches, very interested in acquiring Dan Haren of the Miami Marlins.

The Blue Jays are at 48-48, second in the AL East, 5.5 games behind the New York Yankees. They’re three games behind one of the Wild Card tickets, chasing the Minnesota Twins at the moment.

Haren is playing for a Marlins team that’s 40-55, 12 games behind the lead in the NL East and with no chance of doing anything substantial this season (and some say at all while they have the current ownership).

The 34-year old has done well considering the situation he’s in, going 7-5 in 19 starts with a 3.46 ERA (his best since 2011) and in short playing the best he has in the last four years. The Blue Jays are in the bottom half of the majors in almost every statistical pitching category, including 22nd in ERA (4.05) with a total of just 45 quality starts, 19th in the majors, which means Haren can certainly help them out.
