MLB Rumors – St. Louis Cardinals Interested in Signing Steve Cishek

The St. Louis Cardinals are going to be strong runners in the postseason once again, and would like to improve their bullpen situation, possibly with Steve Cishek of the Miami Marlins.

It hasn’t been a great season for Cishek, the 29-year old, and he actually lost his closer role. Despite that, he has a couple of very promising recent seasons behind him, and his form over the last few weeks has been good enough to generate interest.

Cishek’s overall numbers this season aren’t impressive: Only 2-6 with three save and four blown ones while posting a 4.50 ERA, by far the highest of his career. But since his return to the big league roster after being optioned to Double-A Jacksonville in early June, he has allowed just one earned run in 11 2/3 innings.

Cishek is eligible for arbitration at the end of this season, and is making $6.65 million in 2015.

The Cardinals are leading the NL West (61-34) which is also the best record in Baseball.
