NBA Rumors – Baron Davis Trying to Get Back in the League

It’s been over three years since Baron Davis last played in the NBA, then with the New York Knicks. Turns out he is still hungry to get on the court and see if he still has a place in the league.

Davis last played for the Knicks in 2012, on May 6, 2012, in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs, as the Knicks lost to the Miami Heat in five games although Davis’ injury came in the team’s first playoff win since 2001.

Tearing his right MCL & ACL along with suffering a partial tear of the patella tendon in his right knee. Not easy, not simple, especially at his age (33 at the time). Now Davis, 36, is trying to put all that behind him and see if there’s still a team out there willing to take him in.

Davis is going to try out for whoever is willing to give him the chance. Considering his last season with the Knicks yielded only 6.1 points per game and he missed most of the season, it would be safe to bet against him ending up on any roster by the time the season begins. Maybe later on, if a team gets desperate because of injuries. Veteran leadership matters, but not that much.

Davis has a career average of 16.1 points per game with 7.2 assists, playing for the Hornets, Warriors, Clippers, Cavaliers and Knicks. He made two All-Star games and the All-NBA third team in 2003-2004. For about six seasons (up until 2007-2008) he averaged around 20 points per game (a bit above, a bit below) but started declining quite steeply in the last four years  of his career.
