MLB Rumors – Kansas City Royals Interested in Signing Martin Prado

The Kansas City Royals, the team with the best record in the AL, are very aggressive as we get closer to the trade deadline. After acquiring an ace pitcher, they’re going after Martin Prado of the Miami Marlins.

Trading for Johnny Cueto caused quite a stir, but the Royals don’t want to end up disappointed at the end of this postseason. A franchise that’s been dormant for so long seems to be going all-in at the moment in its attempt to win the World Series, at the moment leading their division by eight games and not slowing down thinking they have a good enough team.

Prado, playing for the Marlins, is an obvious trade target. He’s not a free agent at the end of this season, with $11 million owed to him in 2016 as well, with $3 million of that paid by the New York Yankees. The Royals are probably going to ask the Marlins to pay for some of his salary as well.

Prado isn’t hitting too badly this season, although slightly below his career numbers. He can play a number of positions, but it’s most likely he’ll be assigned to second base, where Omar Infante his hitting just .230/.243/.307. Prado is hitting a .273/.312/.369 so far in 2015 for a Marlins team that’s going nowhere.
