MLB Rumors – Cleveland Indians & Texas Rangers Interested in Signing Carlos Gomez

It hasn’t been the best of seasons for Carlos Gomez of the Milwaukee Brewers, but that’s not deterring teams like the Texas Rangers and Cleveland Indians from working out a trade for him.

Gomez, a two-time All-Star (2013, 2014) is hitting .266/.333/.428/.761 this season. The 29-year old centerfielder is on a very decent contract which could help the Brewers get back some quality prospects and talents in return. Gomez is making $8 million this season and is guaranteed to make $9 million in 2016. With his current production and hopefully back to the levels of the last two years, it’s a very good contract to acquire.

Both the Indians and Rangers are doing it for the immediate future. The Rangers are eight games behind in the Wild Card chase, the Indians are 10 games behind. It’s unlikely we’re going to see some sort of special playoff push from both teams, but next season is always just around the corner, and Gomez fits in well with both teams and their plans.

The Brewers in the NL Central are even further away from competing. They’re 20 games behind the St. Louis Cardinals and are in complete sell mode, which means that Gomez isn’t the only guy they’re hoping to attract buyers for in the next couple of days. Gomez has been with the Brewers since 2010 after getting traded there from the Minnesota Twins.
