The Utah Jazz are trying to scramble and find a way to overcome losing Dante Exum for probably the season. One option seems to be working out a trade with the Washington Wizards for Garrett Temple.

Exum was injured in an international game between Australia and Slovenia which was actually a friendly. He tore his left knee ACL, which usually means out for almost a year, although there have been occasions or premature returns.

So the Jazz need another guard, preferably a point guard. Who can they get? Well, Temple fits the mold of a backup. After moving around the NBA and other leagues for a number a years after finishing his LSU career, Temple found a place with the Washington Wizards, playing in the nation’s capital for three seasons, averaging 3.9 points in 14.1 minutes per game last season, even starting in 18 of his 52 appearances, but hardly getting anything beyond garbage time in the playoffs.

The Jazz have done a good job of rebuilding over the last two years without blatantly tanking. Exum’s injury possibly halts that progress, even though his numbers last season weren’t that far from what Temple produces. The 29-year old is a two-position guard, who’ll simply help bolster the point guard cadre, nothing more, if the Jazz can work out something reasonable with the Wizards for him. We’ll probably be hearing about more names very soon.
