Surprisingly JaVale McGee is drawing interest from a number of NBA teams looking to solidify their big man rotation, with the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers leading the charge.
A number of teams are waiting for him to get healthy. McGee hasn’t played a lot of basketball in the last few years, playing just 28 times over the last two seasons. In 2015 he was traded by the Denver Nuggets to the Philadelphia 76ers, where he spent a very short time before being waived.
The Lakers have Roy Hibbert, Robert Sacre and Tarik Black at center, while the Mavericks, recently signing Samuel Dalembert, also have Zaza Pachulia, Jarrid Famous and Salah Mejri.
Can McGee improve both teams? Depending on how healthy he is, and where his head’s at. For a very short time, McGee looked like he’s developing into a fantastic defensive big man, putting up impressive block shot numbers despite not getting too many minutes. But he’s been inconsistent to say the least, but considering how poor the situation is for both of the mentioned teams inside the paint behind their starters, McGee might actually be able to help give their benches a bit more quality, although he’s not the player to get them into the playoff.
