NBA Rumors – Houston Rockets Beat New Orleans Pelicans to Jason Terry Signing

Jason Terry

The Houston Rockets will retain Jason Terry for another season unless something unexpected happens, despite getting a better offer financially from the New Orleans Pelicans.

Entering what will be his 17th NBA season, Terry took his time choosing a team to play for, although the offers weren’t exactly coming in with force, as you might expect with a 37 year old player.

The Rockets wanted to sew up other things before turning back to Terry, only being able to offer him the veteran’s minimum. Terry had fun in Houston last season, averaging 7 points per game in 77 nights, hitting 39% of his 3-point shots. He averaged 9.2 points per game in the playoffs, helping the Rockets to reach the conference finals for the first time since 1996.

The Pelicans had a similar back up role waiting for him and with even more money. But Terry decided it’s about playing for a championship and contending, not the money he was going to make, which on an NBA scale, wasn’t that different from what he will be making in Houston.

Terry is a one-time NBA champion (2011) with the Dallas Mavericks, who were also interested in Terry a little earlier in the offseason, but like the Pelicans, don’t seem to offer Terry the option of playing on a potential champion.
