NBA Rumors – Los Angeles Clippers & Dallas Mavericks Interested in Signing Glen Davis

Glen Davis

One of the bigger names out in free agency is Glen Davis, who last played with the Los Angeles Clippers and might still go back there, although the Dallas Mavericks are in the picture of signing him as well.

This has nothing to do with the new hatred between the two franchises. Davis isn’t good enough for the Mavericks to waste a roster spot on him just out of spite. They already have 19 roster spots filled for the offseason, with just one more left vacant. If they do add Davis, it’ll be because they think he can help them somehow.

Davis averaged 4 points and 2.3 rebounds in 12.2 minutes per game. In short, even if he remains a Clippers player, he’s not promised a lot of minutes, and that is going to be the same for him on any other NBA team, including Dallas. That, and he’s not going to make more than the veteran’s minimum.

Davis already accepted a veteran’s minimum last season to play for the Clippers, and if staying on a team with a shot at the championship is his goal, than Dallas are out of the picture. But there are also offers for him in Europe and China. In Europe he might even make the same kind of money (or even more) he will in the NBA, and play more minutes. In China he’ll obviously get plenty of playing time.

Overall, it depends what’s more important to him. The Mavericks don’t offer anything that’s better than the Clippers except for a change in scenery. After two seasons in Los Angeles without playing very good basketball or being shown they’re relying on him too heavily, maybe a change will do him some good.
