The Philadelphia Eagles can’t escape the jokes and memes about the rushing numbers of DeMarco Murray, which includes making fun of Chip Kelly and his general managing abilities. The Dallas Cowboys, when healthy the best team in the NFC East, are easy to make fun of because of the Tony Romo and Dez Bryant injuries.
Murray has really had a tough start to life in Philly. He’s having the worst start to a season in NFL history for a running back, going for 11 yards and 21 carries. His receiving numbers are slightly better and he does have two touchdowns overall, but when the Eagles signed him for $8 million a season, they had a very different output and result in mind.
It’s probably more about the offensive line, something head coach Kelly has said, than Murray’s own running, but the Eagles problems at this point are numerous, which casts a large pessimistic shadow over the outcome of this season after so many expectations going in.
As for the Cowboys… one of the best teams in the league is falling apart because of bad luck. Jason Witten is also questionable for the next game, so it’s up to Brandon Weeden, not the best quarterback in the league, with an insurance policy in the form of Matt Cassel behind him, to keep things from crashing. It’s hard to believe he’s good enough to do it.
