2015 College Football Season – 16 Undefeated Teams Left

Florida State Seminoles

Following Week 6 of the 2015 College Football Season, we have 16 undefeated teams left: Temple, Memphis and Houston from the AAC; Florida State & Clemson in the ACC; Oklahoma State, TCU and Baylor in the Big 12; Michigan State, Ohio State and Iowa in the Big Ten; Toledo in the MAC; Utah in the Pac-12; Florida, LSU and Texas A&M in the SEC.

Previously undefeated teams – Navy, Oklahoma, Northwestern and California lost for the first time.

In the SEC, the Aggies didn’t play to risk their perfect record, while LSU played at home despite on paper being on the road as they hosted the homeless (at least for one week) South Carolina at Baton Rouge. They had no problem beating the Gamecocks 45-24, while Florida, a much less impressive team on offense, had no problem shutting down the hard to watch Missouri, beating the Tigers 21-3.

In the Big Ten, none of the perfect teams looked too flashy in their wins, as Ohio State struggled early on before busting the game open in a 49-28 win over Maryland. Michigan State enjoyed an impossible to explain mistake by Rutgers to overcome the Scarlet Knights 31-24, spiking the ball on fourth down with seconds left in the game. Iowa, the most surprising of the bunch in this case, beat Illinois 29-20 to remain on top of the Big Ten West.

TCU and Baylor keep putting up huge numbers in their alpha-male contest over the Big 12. Baylor had no problem destroying Kansas 66-7 while TCU got into a lot of trouble on the road against Kansas State, overcoming a big halftime deficit to win 52-45. Oklahoma State had a difficult road game as well but won it in overtime, beating West Virginia 33-26.

In the ACC things are as usual: There’s Florida State, Clemson, and everyone else. Clemson found it quite easy to dispatch of the sliding Georgia Tech with a convincing, wasn’t that close 43-24 victory. Florida State had a rough one against rivals Miami, but a late rushing touchdown by Dalvin Cook kept their dominance in this one going.

Utah remain perfect in the Pac-12 after a tough, 30-24 win over conference rivals California. They’ve done a great job of going through the most difficult schedule out of the top 5 teams, doing it with some excellent running and solid defense, maybe this time not before they start sliding like they did last season.

As for the smaller fish in the pond: Temple are 5-0 following a win over Tulane (49-10) which could put them in the rankings finally. Memphis had a close one once again, beating South Florida 24-17. Houston, who like Temple have a win over a decent P5 team, beat SMU 49-28.

We finish with Toledo, with wins over Arkansas and Iowa State this season already. They had no problem beating Kent State 38-7 to put them at 5-0.
