Enough is Enough – Roy Hodgson Leaves Liverpool

I guess losing to Blackburn 3-1 was what broke the Reds’ owners back. Roy Hodgson was working on borrowed time for quite a while now, but his mid week loss to Blackburn, Liverpool’s 9th defeat this season and being 12th in the Premier League tables made it clear the new American ownership will be looking elsewhere for the man to bring Liverpool back on track. According to reports, Hodgson left by mutual consent. It was pretty much over after the home defeat against Wolves despite having a full lineup and a nice two week break before the match. Hodgson turning on the fans after the match didn’t help him and pretty much sealed his fate.

Anfield legend Kenny Dalglish will be on the sidelines for the meantime, with his first day on the job bringing him the very difficult FA Cup game against Manchester United tomorrow. Many fans would like to see Dalglish return to the Liverpool bench on a permanent basis. He was the last manager to win the league title with the Reds over twenty years ago, but the rumor mill regarding the next manager is now open and will be buzzing if Dalglish doesn’t settle the sinking boat very soon.

Despite the euphoria probably felt among most of the Liverpool fans about Hodgson leaving, this won’t be a quick fix. Liverpool’s squad is worth more than a mid table finish, it needs strengthening and improvement in pretty much every area of the pitch. A new manager is fine, but it’s going to take a lot of cash to turn things around.
