Italian Supreme Court Says It’s OK to Watch Porn During Your Lunch Break

A judicial saga that’s been going on for five years is finally over when the Supreme Court in Italy upheld Palermo’s court of appeal ruling that a Fiat Employee who watched porn during his lunch break cannot be sacked by the automaker.

This whole thing begins in 2010, when Fiat fired the worker for his porn watching during lunch, and a court in Termini Imerese initially found the man guilty. The man who works at a factory in Termini Imerese, a town near Palermo in Sicily, argued that he did nothing wrong, and had the verdict overturned in Palermo’s court of appeal. As we mentioned above, the Supreme Court upheld that decision.

According to the worker, he only caught a glimpse of a porn film during his lunch break. There was no evidence that this was a habit that’s seeping into his work hours and affecting it, so the court ruled he had done nothing wrong.

But it turns out that watching porn isn’t as bad as smoking a joint. On the same day that Fiat lost one legal battle, they won another, with the Supreme court ruling that he company was within its rights to sack a worker who smoked cannabis during his lunch break.
