NBA Rumors – Memphis Grizzlies Interested in Signing Mario Chalmers

Mario Chalmers

A couple of years ago, the Memphis Grizzlies looking for a trade with the Miami Heat that lands them Mario Chalmers, made sense. But now? Not so much.

Marc Stein of ESPN is reporting that the first nugget of trade rumors going around the league suggests the Grizzlies are looking into the option of trading for the backup point guard who seems to have taken a step or two backwards since LeBron James left Miami, relegated to a smaller and smaller role on the Heat’s bench.

Chalmers shot 1-of-9 from the field in just 22 minutes as the Heat were beaten at home by the Atlanta Hawks. He’s averaging 5.5 points per game on 28.6% shooting, playing 19 minutes a night. The main backup for the Grizzlies’ guards is Beno Udrih, who at least offensively does a better job than Chalmers, averaging 6.4 points and 3.8 assists while shooting 41.9% from the field in less than 17 minutes per game.

Going by Stein’s twitter post and the reactions to it, Memphis fans aren’t too happy about this idea, still feeling the “love” for Chalmers since 2008, when he and the Kansas Jayhawks beat the Tigers in the NCAA Tournament final.
