There’s more to being a defensive back than interceptions, but being a master at takeaways doesn’t hurt. Charles Woodson (Oakland Raiders) and Mike Adams (Indianapolis Colts) are showing that age doesn’t stop you from picking off passes better than anybody else.

Woodson, 39 and in his 18th NFL season, is leading the league along with Adams with 5 interceptions so far. Woodson has led the NFL in picks twice before during his years with the Green Bay Packers, and his 65 career interceptions place him fifth on the all-time list, with three to go before reaching 4th to match hall of famer Night Train Lane, currently sharing 5th with Ken Riley.

Adams is 34 and isn’t going to the hall of fame like Woodson is. Last season, his 11th in the NFL, was also the first he was good enough (or popular enough) to make the Pro Bowl. He had five interceptions last season, a career high, and he’s already at that number this season. He has 23 in his career, so it’ll take a lot more of those for the 34 year old who has been in the league since 2004, playing mostly at the safety position (unlike Woodson who has been a cornerback until recently), to start bothering those high up the career interceptions spots.
