MLB Rumors – New York Mets Interested in Signing Gerardo Parra

Gerardo Parra

The New York Mets are looking for a lefty bat in their outfield, and might turn to Gerardo Parra who had a weird season in 2015, playing very well for the Milwaukee Brewers before getting traded to the Baltimore Orioles, where the AL pitching, or something else, made him hit some sort of slump.

Parra is a fantastic defender with two Gold Glove years in his past (2011, 2013) when playing for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Never much of a power hitter, he hit new peaks of accuracy and consistency with his bat this season for the Brewers, hitting .328/.369/.517/.886 in 100 games before a trade sent him to the Orioles, where things kind of crashed for him, hitting just .237 in 55 games as Baltimore failed to make the playoffs.

The plan is to platoon Parra with Juan Lagares next season, who is not too far from Parra in terms of hitting (at least last season was), excluding the exceptional time he had with the Brewers, which is hard to decide if it’s indicative of something or just a once-in-a-career 100-game phase for him, hitting .277 for his career.

The Mets made the World Series this season but lost in five games, and have some tough decisions to make besides feeling confident in their strong starting pitching. Getting some more reliable hitters and improving the bullpen is obviously on top of their list.
