The thrashing Manchester City received at home from Liverpool resulted in plenty of memes, mostly focusing on Raheem Sterling getting destroyed by his former team, but also the smiling faces of Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool players.
Despite the problems in City’s defense, no one saw the 4-1 win by the Reds coming. Liverpool are still some way off the top 4, but even when they don’t win, things have looked significantly better with Klopp on the sidelines, instilling a system that seems to fit the players he has, and that’s all before he can make some changes in January.
For City, this was a match exposing their flaws against teams that press high and are willing to outwork them in the midfield. Sterling was actually one of the team’s better players in the match, while the defensive midfield got run over by hungrier, more industrious players.
Liverpool will now hope this generates some momentum to help them join the leading pack, surprisingly topped by Leicester City of all teams. Manchester City, once again, are hoping this isn’t a sign of things to come, but simply a minor setback.
