Things haven’t turned out quite as planned for Kyle Allen, once the number one quarterback recruit in the nation, over the last two years with Texas A&M. He’s transferring, which means sitting out for a year, but he’s already put together a list of teams he’s hoping to play for, with the Oklahoma Sooners on the top of his list.
Allen is free to transfer to any school he likes except those in the SEC and future opponents already scheduled for the Aggies. In two seasons with the team, he has completed 58.5% of his passes, thrown for 3532 yards in 10 games, completed 33 touchdown passes and 14 interceptions. He split the job with Kyler Murray this season, with Kenny Hill in 2014. The Aggies hopes of getting something of young quarterbacks, all highly touted leaving high school, have been crushed in both years, with the team unable to compete for the SEC West title, and left missing Johnny Manziel, who has his own share of problems in the NFL.
Allen won’t be able to play in the 2016 season, but that’s alright by him. He talked about Oklahoma because of the situation they present, which is similar to what he’s going through: Baker Mayfield transferred to Norman and starred in their 2015 campaign, leading them to the College Football Playoffs. Mark Andrews, a receiver, is a former teammate of Allen’s, and playing for Bob Stoops and not Kevin Sumlin seems to be another motivating factor.
Allen wants to sign with a school that has a quarterback going out to the draft or simply finishing school after the 2016 season, which would give him a chance to compete for a starting spot against whoever their is when he regains his eligibility. Allen wants a power 5 school obviously, and would love it to be Oklahoma. But are the Sooners interested in him? Is anyone from a major program interested in him?
