Just one bowl game as we’re getting closer and closer to the bigger game of the bowl season, as Western Kentucky are added to the name of the winners following their impressive offensive performance against South Florida in the Miami Beach Bowl.
Western Kentucky (12-2) 45 South Florida (8-5) 35 (Miami Beach Bowl): A fantastic season for Western Kentucky ended with their second consecutive bowl game win under Jeff Brohm, overcoming an early 14-point deficit and getting Brandon Doughty to throw his way out of trouble, capping off his collegiate career with 461 yards and three touchdown passes, helping people forget about the two interceptions he threw in the game. Anthony Wales ran for 105 yards and two touchdowns. The season ends with the Hilltoppers first conference championship since 2002, and they are 20-7 since Brohm, the former offensive coordinator, took over the program from Bobby Petrino. The win might mean WKU are ranked once bowl season is over.
And what’s next? The action picks up with two games coming up next in one day would you believe it; Akron playing Utah State in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, followed by #24 Temple facing off against a team that was ranked quite a bit this season, Toledo, in the Boca Raton Bowl. Both teams had a nice undefeated stretch going during the season, but couldn’t make it last.
