College Football Bowl Season – Day 4 Scores

Boise State Broncos

Another day of two bowl games to advance the bowl season towards its crescendo. Boise State, as usual, ended up as impressive winners, this time routing Northern Illinois in the Poinsettia Bowl, while Georgia Southern made a little bit of history in their demolishing of Bowling Green for the GoDaddy Bowl.

Boise State (9-4) 55  Northern Illinois (8-6) 7 (Poinsettia Bowl): Not a great season by Boise State standards, but they keep their dominance and tradition in bowl games, winning for a sixth time in the last seven years. Jeremy McNichols, who ended up rushing for three touchdowns, scored the first one with just 58 seconds after kick off. They led 24-0 before Northern Illinois put something on the board, and Aregeros Turner taking a kickoff 96 yards was the only time the Huskies managed to do something, held to just 7 first downs and an embarrassing 33 offensive yards, in what was probably the most one sided bowl game this year.

Georgia Southern (9-4) 58  Bowling Green (10-4) 27 (GoDaddy Bowl): A big day for Favian Upshaw with 199 rushing yards and four touchdowns as the Eagles participate and win their first ever bowl game since joining the FBS, not letting an early 20-9 lead by the Falcons change their plans, outscoring Bowling Green 49-7 in the final 41 minutes of the game. They didn’t even need any passing game to do it, with Kevin Ellison attempting just five passes for 65 yards and one touchdown, while Upshaw did most of the work.

Christmas Eve is the day of exotic bowls, so the high scoring affairs of December 23, with the winners putting up a total of 113 points, will be followed by the Bahamas Bowl where Middle Tennessee and Western Michigan will go head  to head, while far far away from there, in Hawaii, it’ll be San Diego State playing against Cincinnati in the Hawaii Bowl.
