While there are no more undefeated teams in division I college basketball, we still have 22 teams without a loss in their conference.
The ACC has one undefeated team at the moment, North Carolina. The Tar Heels are 18-2 overall, and they’ve yet to face a ranked team among their conference rivals. The first will be Louisville on the road, although they do have Boston College before that game, the only team in the ACC without a conference win so far.
The Big Ten has two undefeated teams, Indiana and Iowa. The Hoosiers, 17-3 overall, have enjoyed a rather soft conference schedule so far. Things get more difficult for them pretty soon with games at Michigan and Michigan State while also hosting Iowa. The Hawkeyes, ranked number nine in the nation, have beaten a ranked Michigan State team twice and have done the same to Purdue, showing that they are more than just a fad.
The SEC has one undefeated team remaining, and it’s not Kentucky or South Carolina, who are going to be out of the rankings soon enough. It’s Texas A&M, number 10 on the most recent poll, who are also 17-2 overall. They still have to play at LSU (who they’ve beaten at home) and against Kentucky, but the road towards a possibly undefeated conference season doesn’t seem that problematic for them.
And the rest? Stony Brook are 6-0 in the America East and 15-4 overall. VCU are ahead of Dayton and Saint Joseph’s in the Atlantic 10, going 7-0 so far in the conference and 15-5 overall. North Florida are 6-0 in the Atlantic Sun and 17-6 overall.
The Big West has two undefeated teams: Hawaii and UC Irvine, both 5-0 so far, playing each other twice within 10 days in February to determine the alpha dog of the conference. In Conference USA, it’s UAB at 7-0 that’s leading the way (17-3 overall), in front of Marshall and Middle Tennessee.
In the Ivy League there haven’t been that many games, but right now Princeton, Yale and Columbia don’t have a conference loss. In the MEAC Hampton are 7-0 although just 11-7 overall, giving us an indication of how good they actually are.
In the MVC it’s non other than Wichita State with an 8-0 conference start, while in the MWC right now it’s San Diego State without a loss. In the OVC, it’s Belmont, from the East division, that’s undefeated with a 7-0 record at this point.
Southland has none other than three undefeated schools: SF Austin, Texas A&M-CC and Houston Baptist. In the SWAC it’s Texas Southern that’s undefeated, and last and also maybe least, Grand Canyon in the WAC going 5-0 in conference play and 18-2 overall.
