A busy and eventful night of NBA basketball was highlighted by the Golden State Warriors and Stephen Curry cruising the San Antonio Spurs, the Cleveland Cavaliers giving Tyronn Lue his first win as their head coach, the Chicago Bulls back to their losing ways at home against the Miami Heat and the Charlotte Hornets winning in double overtime against the Sacramento Kings despite 56 points from DeMarcus Cousins.

Minnesota Timberwolves 107  Cleveland Cavaliers 114: The Cavs win their first game without David Blatt on the sidelines, which means Tyronn Lue has his first win as a head coach. LeBron James led the team with 25 points on 11-of-15 from the field to go with nine assists, while five other players scored in double figures, including 19 by Tristan Thompson and 18 for Matthew Dellavedova.

Boston Celtics 116  Washington Wizards 91: The East continues to give us weird, unexpected results between the playoff contenders that aren’t the Cavaliers. The Celtics crush the Wizards with excellent defense, forcing 20 turnovers out of Washington. Isaiah Thomas led them with 23 points, helped out by Evan Turner off the bench with 18.

Miami Heat 89  Chicago Bulls 84: Weird East, right? The Heat stop a four-game losing streak in Chicago after the Bulls came off beating Cleveland on the road. The Heat scored the final five points of the game and relied heavily on Dwyane Wade (28 points) and Chris Bosh (18 points) especially in the finish. The Bulls shot just 39.8% from the field.

Orlando Magic 102  Memphis Grizzlies 108: The Magic didn’t show up to overtime after 100-100 at the end of four quarters. Jeff Green had his best game of the season with 30 points off the bench, helped out by 18 points and 13 rebounds by Zach Randolph. The Magic were held to just 1-of-10 from the field in overtime.

Houston Rockets 112  New Orleans Pelicans 111: The Pelicans almost won despite Anthony Davis leaving the game early due to an elbow to the head. James Harden led the Rockets with 35 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists, while Trevor Ariza remains hot with 31 points. Jrue Holiday had 32 for the Pelicans, but missed the potential-game winner, not really coming close to making it.

Atlanta Hawks 119  Denver Nuggets 105: Paul Millsap scored 22 points to lead the Hawks in a road win that makes them a .500 away team again. Al Horford helped out with 18 points, as the Hawks held the Nuggets to 39.3% from the field and scored 22 points off of their 15 turnovers.

Detroit Pistons 95  Utah Jazz 92: The Jazz have now lost five of their last seven to drop out of 8th in the West, and their hack-a-Drummond tactics failed in the big picture despite his misses, going 1-of-10 from the line. Reggie Jackson scored 29 points to lead the Pistons while the Jazz keep waiting for Derrick Favors to return.

Charlotte Hornets 129  Sacramento Kings 128: The Hornets win a third game in a row, lasting a double overtime game to kick off their Western road trip, despite 56 points from DeMarcus Cousins, a career high for him and season high in the NBA. It wasn’t enough against a Hornets team that is now 5-0 in overtime this season, including three out of their last five games. Troy Daniels scored 28 points off the bench for them, Kemba Walker (in another awful shooting game) had 24 and Jeremy Lin finished with 20 and 11 assists.

San Antonio Spurs 90  Golden State Warriors 120: A game that leaves everyone worried that the Warriors might have an easier road to a championship than last season. Stephen Curry exploded for 37 points in just 28 minutes, the Spurs turned the ball over 25 times and a matchup with teams that had the highest combined win percentage ever for opponents meeting at least 40 games into an NBA season, turned into a disappointment for being a one-sided affair.
