MLB April 7 Scores & Standings

Anthony Rizzo

The first week of the 2016 MLB Season continues, with the Chicago Cubs and Baltimore Orioles remaining undefeated, the San Francisco Giants handing the Los Angeles Dodgers their first loss of the campaign and the New York Yankees carrying on blasting hits and runs against the Houston Astros.

Chicago Cubs 14  Arizona Diamondbacks 6: The Cubs remain perfect with an impressive offensive display that included Anthony Rizzo hitting his second homerun of the season and finishing with six RBIs. Dexter Fowler and Addison Russell had two RBIs each, while Fowler was involved in a collision that caused Nick Schwarber to sprain his ankle.

Philadelphia Phillies 6  Cincinnati Reds 10: The Reds sweep the series of the tanking/rebuilding teams with Jay Bruce hitting two home runs and Eugenio Suarez adding another.

Chicago White Sox 6  Oakland A’s 1: The White Sox are now 3-1 to start the season, as Mat Latos allowed just one hit in six innings to pick up the win. Jose Abreu hit a two-run homer and added another RBI late in the game with a sac fly.

Houston Astros 5  New York Yankees 8: Despite two home runs in the second inning to take the lead, the Astros got stuck when the Yankees turned to their bullpen, getting a strong finish with Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller, striking out five batters in the final two innings. Brian McCann homered, so did Starlin Castro (again) and Mark Teixeira won the game with a three-run homer in the 7th.

Miami Marlins 6  Washington Nationals 4: The Marlins win for the first time this season thanks to David Phelps coming in to pitch a solid four innings, while Martin Prado and Adeiny Hechavarria took care of the offensive side of things.

Los Angeles Dodgers 6  San Francisco Giants 12: The Dodgers taste defeat for the first time this season, as Alex Wood had a rough start, Timi Garcia blew a lead and J.P Howell got shelled. Jake Peavy wasn’t great either, but had enough offense to support him and the bullpen (win went to Chris Heston), as Hunter Pence finished strong with a grand slam in the 8th to seal the deal.

Minnesota Twins 2  Baltimore Orioles 4: The Orioles are still undefeated Manny Machado and Joey Rickard both hit home runs while Ubaldo Jimenez finished with nine strikeouts in seven innings, giving up just two runs.

Texas Rangers 3  Los Angeles Angels 4: An RBI single by Albert Pujols in the 9th, his first of the season, gave the Angels the dramatic win after Fernando Salas blew a previous lead and Huston Street came on to finish and pick up the win.
