Nothing changes for the Baltimore Orioles who ruin opening day at Fenway for the Boston Red Sox, nor for the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves, still without a win. The Chicago Cubs remain hot, ruining a no-hitter for Brandon Finnegan while beating the Cincinnati Reds.
Cincinnati Reds 3 Â Chicago Cubs 5:Â Brandon Finnegan took a no-hitter for the Reds into the 7th inning, but then the Cubs remembered they have bats. A 3-0 lead turned into a loss, as Jason Heyward hit a two-RBI single followed by Addison Russell hitting a three-run homer off of Jumbo Diaz, who blew the lead in the 8th.
Baltimore Orioles 9 Â Boston Red Sox 7:Â The Orioles didn’t care that this was the final opening day at Fenway Park for David Ortiz. They shelled David Price who didn’t make it very far while giving up five runs, not minding the Red Sox taking a 3-0 lead. Mike Trumbo hit a three-run homer to put the Orioles in a rhythm and Chris Davis, finishing with 5 RBIs, hit a three-run bomb in the 9th to break a 6-6 tie.
San Diego Padres 4 Â Philadelphia Phillies 3:Â The Padres win thanks to Alexi Amarista safety squeeze in the 7th inning which broke the deadlock and scored Derek Norris. After blowing the lead earlier on, Fernando Rodney came on to finish and close it out without having any problems.
Chicago White Sox 4 Â Minnesota Twins 1:Â The Twins remain winless, this time unable to get much against Jose Quintana, who allowed only four hits while striking out five. Austin Jackson had a two-RBI single in the 4th as the standout run provider in the game.
Milwaukee Brewers 1 Â St. Louis Cardinals 10:Â Rough day for the Brewers while the Cards pick up a fourth straight win. Michael Wacha struck out 7 and allowed four hits in six innings. The Cardinals were up 9-0 by the end of the third, not hitting a single home run, getting two RBIs from both Matt Carpenter and Yadier Molina.
Miami Marlins 10 Â New York Mets 3:Â Giancarlo Stanton hit his second home run of the season and Marcell Ozuna hit his first in 2016, while Steven Matz didn’t even make it out of the second inning, giving up seven runs before getting pulled off.
Atlanta Braves 4 Â Washington Nationals 6:Â The Braves are 0-6 for the first time in 28 years, scoring four runs early on two doubles. However, Wilson Ramos did a great job of hustling and then hitting to single handedly give the Nationals the win.
Kansas City Royals 2 Â Houston Astros 8:Â The Astros look great in their home opener with a solid performance by Collin McHugh while Colby Rasmus stood out among the hitters with a two-run homer in the first inning.
Los Angeles Angels 4 Â Oakland A’s 1:Â Nick Tropeano struck out six in five innings and Mike Trout hit his first home run of the season in a day of wasted opportunity for Oakland, going 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position.
Texas Rangers 7 Â Seattle Mariners 3:Â Colby Lewis has a very good start with six struck out in six innings. The batters that stood out were Prince Fielder with two RBIs on a single and sac fly, while Rougned Odor finished with 2-for-5 and three RBIs.
