Jake Arrieta Cubs

In a less busy than usual night of Baseball, the Chicago Cubs won their third game in a row as Jake Arrieta continues to look untouchable, the Baltimore Orioles finally stopped the Chicago White Sox and the Philadelphia Phillies completed a surprising sweep of the Washington Nationals, shutting them out for the second time in the series.

Milwaukee Brewers 2  Chicago Cubs 7: A day late due to bad weather, Jake Arrieta get win number five this season (5-0, 1.00 ERA) as he struck out six batters in five innings. Taylor Jungmann, on the other end of that spectrum, is now 0-4 with a 9.15 ERA. Ben Zobrist (2-for-5) had two RBIs and David Ross, the Cubs catcher, hit his second home run of the season.

Oakland Athletics 3  Detroit Tigers 7: Anibal Sanchez struck out nine in less than six innings to pick up his third win this season while Anthony Gose hit a two-run homer and Ian Kinsler made it to 13 RBIs this season for the Tigers off of a third inning double.

Philadelphia Phillies 3  Washington Nationals 0: The Phillies complete a sweep of the Nationals with another shutout. Aaron Nola struck out 7 in 7 innings, while Tanner Roark had a strong start for Washington too. It all came down to the ninth inning, as a double by Cameron Rupp scored two, a David Lough infield single added another RBI and Jeanmar Gomez closed things up for the 7th time this season with a save.

Chicago White Sox 2  Baltimore Orioles 10: The White Sox lose after six straight wins, as John Danks got pummeled in his start. Chris David, Mike Trumbo and Manny Machado all hit home runs and the Orioles were 15-for-38 with four walks on the day.

Atlanta Braves 5  Boston Red Sox 3: The Braves finally get some offense going, as Mallex Smith got a couple of RBIs and Nick Markakis added three of his own (19 this season) with a couple of singles early in the game.

St. Louis Cardinals 0  Arizona Diamondbacks 3: Rubby De La Rosa struck out 10 batters and gave up just two hits in seven innings to dominate the inconsistent Cardinals, while home runs from Chris Herrmann and Brandon Drury provided the offense.

Miami Marlins 5  Los Angeles Dodgers 3: Dee Gordon played his final game for the Marlins before an 80-game suspension kicks in (still can appeal) for PED use. In the game itself, Jose Fernandez picks up win number two (2-2, 4.08 ERA) with eight k’s in six innings. Gordon himself had an RBI, while Giancarlo Stanton hit his 7th home run of the season.
