The memes describing how badly the San Antonio Spurs were whoppin’ the Oklahoma City Thunder were coming out before the game was over. Yes, it was that terrible for the Thunder.
You know it’s the playoffs when Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook are sitting next to each other, with Westbrook blinding everyone with his fashion choice, both of them wanting to be anywhere but in front of the press, giving short, gloomy answers while looking like it’s the end of the world.
It was just game 1, but it felt like a knockdown powerful enough to be a TKO for the entire series. The Spurs led by 23 points after 12 minutes. They were up 73-40 at halftime. It doesn’t get more humiliating than this, when every weakness you have is exposed without too much trouble.
The problem is the Thunder think they can turn this around by simply trying harder and getting Durant and Westbrook better looks. It might help make it look like a fair fight, but it seems the difference between these two teams could be a bit more difficult to bridge.
