Chris Sale

The Boston Red Sox sweep the New York Yankees while both the Chicago White Sox and Washington Nationals keep on winning with a combination of consistent offense and great pitching.

Atlanta Braves 4  Chicago Cubs 3: The Braves win for only the 6th  time this season thanks to a Nick Markakis sacrifice fly in the 10th inning,  making the late rally from behind by the Cubs futile.

San Francisco Giants 6  New York Mets 1: In a somewhat shaky season for Madison Bumgarner, he pulled off seven strikeouts six innings while Hunter Pence and Buster Posey provided most of the offense.

Toronto Blue Jays 5  Tampa Bay Rays 1: Marcus Stroman looked great for eight innings, striking out nine batters and allowing just three hits and one run. Both Troy Tulowitzki and Josh Donaldson hit home runs.

Chicago White Sox 7  Baltimore Orioles 1: Another terrific performance by Chris Sale, improving to 6-0 with a 1.66 ERA. Offense came from Brett Lawrie with a home run and Jerry Sands with two RBIs.

Cincinnati Reds 6  Pittsburgh Pirates 5: A home run by John Jason in the 9th dragged the game into extra innings, but this one had a Pirates loss written all over it. The delivering hand was from Scott Schebler with a scoring double in the 11th inning.

Miami Marlins 5  Milwaukee Brewers 14: Finally some offense from the Brewers, leading 11-1 by the end of the fourth inning. Chris Carter hit two home runs and Domingo Santa helped out with some power too.

Detroit Tigers 6  Minnesota Twins 5: The Twins had a 5-2 lead in the 5th, but a three run homer from Nick Castellanos tied the game in the 6th. Jarrod Saltalamacchia won it in the 8th with an RBI double.

Washington Nationals 6  St. Louis Cardinals 1: Max Scherzer struck out nine batters in seven innings while giving up just four hits. The offense came from Clint Robinson, Danny Espinosa and Chris Heisey, each with one home run.

Cleveland Indians 1  Philadelphia Phillies 2: The most surprising team among those with a winning record at the Phillies, five games above .500. Vince Velasquez had another strong performance with only two hits allowed in six innings to improve to 4-1 this season. The Phillies won with only four hits of their own.

Los Angeles Angels 9  Texas Rangers 6: Kole Calhoun, Mike Trout and C.J. Cron each had two RBIs as the Rangers finished with 15-for-38 at the plate.

Houston Astros 2  Oakland Athletics 1: Doug Fister wasn’t brilliant but allowing just one run in almost seven innings is impressive enough. Jose Altuve hitting a home run early on set the pace, with the A’s scoring too late to make a difference.

Kansas City Royals 4  Seattle Mariners 1: The crisis seems to be over for the World Series champions, enjoying some strong bullpen innings and Ian Kennedy picking up the win. Eric Hosmer hit a home run and like Lorenzo Cain, picked up his ninth RBI of the season.

San Diego Padres 0  Los Angeles Dodgers 1: One of those special Clayton Kershaw performances, going all nine innings to strikeout 14 batters, improving to 3-1 with a 1.96 ERA. Kershaw also had the game winning RBI with a single.

Colorado Rockies 6  Arizona Diamondbacks 3: The Rockies entered the 7th inning with a one run lead. They made sure they weren’t leaving the Desert without a win thanks to home run number 11  this season by Mike Arenado, a two run bomb.

New York Yankees 7  Boston Red Sox 8: A sweep for the Red Sox over the crumbling Yankees despite a bad day for David Price (4-0, 6.14 ERA). Travis Shaw and Christian Vasquez hit home runs to help the Red Sox come from behind.
