It was enough for the Washington Capitals to have home ice advantage and Alex Ovechkin on their team. The memes of laughing at their failure make a comeback, like every year, with the Pittsburgh Penguins making sure they begin their offseason earlier than expected.
The Capitals put together one of the best regular seasons in recent years, and looked very impressive in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
However, the Penguins were the kind of lower seeded team no one wanted to play. The New York Rangers suffered for it in the conference quarterfinals, and for the Capitals it was the same, their series ending in six games.
The ending was especially tragic. They managed to come back from three goals down to force overtime. However, Nick Bonino scored 6:32 into overtime, sending the Penguins to face the Tampa Bay Rays in the conference finals, while the Capitals can start setting up their dates on the various golf courses near the vacation spots they’re headed to, beating the summer rush thanks to their early exit.
