The Los Angeles Dodgers provided the pitching performance of the day, with Clayton Kershaw shutting out the New York Mets. Meanwhile, both the Baltimore Orioles and the Boston Red Sox remain a step ahead of the AL East and maintain the longest winning streaks in baseball.

Kansas City Royals 3  New York Yankees 7: The Yankees are getting closer to coming out of the bottom in the AL East, beating the Royals off of home runs by Starlin Castro, Chase Headley and Didi Gregorius.

Detroit Tigers 5  Baltimore Orioles 7: Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez helped the Tigers build a 5-0 lead into the sixth inning, but the Orioles stormed back with Chris Davis twice scoring Manny Machado and Jonathan Schoop hitting a 2-RBI triple in the 7th to give the Orioles the lead and the win, before the O’Day and Britton duo closed things out.

Houston Astros 1  Boston Red Sox 11: The Red Sox remain scorching hot, with David Price striking out 12 in just under seven innings of pitching. Xavier Bogaerts and Mookie Betts hit home runs, as Boston won their fifth in a row.

Philadelphia Phillies 7  Atlanta Braves 4: Freddy Galvis hit his fourth home run of the season and a three-run double from Cameron Rupp in the 10th inning gave the Phillies another win in Atlanta, who are now 2-17 at home.

San Diego Padres 3  Milwaukee Brewers 0: James Shields looked great in seven innings of work, striking out nine. Melvin Upton Jr. had two RBIs, including another home run in a rare shutout win for the Padres.

San Francisco Giants 4  Zack Greinke 2: Greinke remains inconsistent this season, dropping to 3-3 with a 5.26 ERA. Johnny Cueto on the other turn on the mound improved to 5-1 with nine strikeouts in seven innings. Joe Panik stood out on offense with a two-run homer.

St. Louis Cardinals 12  Los Angeles Angels 10: The two teams combined for 33 hits, but the Cardinals were simply a bit better. Matt Holliday hit two home runs and Matt Carpenter added one of his own. Adam Wainwright got the win despite getting hit 11 times, allowing six runs and striking out just three.

New York Mets 0  Los Angeles Dodgers 5: Clayton Kershaw shutout the Mets in nine innings, striking out 13, allowing only three hits. The Dodgers scored all of their runs in the first two innings, as Chase Utley and Yasmani Grandal hit home runs.
