The Los Angeles Dodgers finally get to take down the Chicago Cubs, the Boston Red Sox extend their lead in the AL East and everyone in the AL West is on a two-game winning streak or longer, as the Texas Rangers continue to lead the division following four straight W’s.
San Diego Padres 4 Â Seattle Mariners 16:Â Hisashi Iwakuma improved to 4-0 this season, but that’s not the story. The Mariners blasted five home runs, including two for Seth Smith in a second straight win for Seattle.
Houston Astros 8 Â Arizona Diamondbacks 5:Â A three-run homer by George Springer erased a two-run lead for Arizona, and sent the Astros on a scoring run that ended with Carlos Valbuena hitting a solo homer, an 8-2 lead, and the eventual win.
Texas Rangers 7 Â Cleveland Indians 3: Colby Lewis remains undefeated, improving to 5-0 this season, while home runs from Bryan Holaday and Jurickson Profar did most of the damage on offense.
Los Angeles Dodgers 5 Â Chicago Cubs 0:Â The Cubs haven’t lost a Jake Arrieta start since July, and after holding the fort for seven innings, striking out 8 and allowing just two hits, the Dodgers slipped by with a single by Adrian Gonzalez, a sacrifice fly by Howie Kendrick and Corey Seager hitting a three-run homer.
Boston Red Sox 6  Baltimore Orioles 2: The Red Sox keep battering the Orioles, as Mookie Betts hits three home runs, the first Boston player to hit three homers in a game since Will Middlebrooks against Toronto on April 7, 2013, and the fifth player in the majors to hit three homers in a game this season. The Red Sox didn’t need much else, opening a three-game lead at the top of the AL East.
Washington Nationals 5 Â Philadelphia Phillies 1:Â Speaking of leads, after three straight wins, Washington lead by two in the NL East. Joe Ross allowed just three hits in seven innings, Daniel Murphy got his ninth home run and Jayson Werth, another hot bat at the moment, got number 8 of the season.
New York Yankees 1 Â Toronto Blue Jays 4:Â Toronto beat the Yankees again, this time with some excellent bullpen work, a home run by Justin Smoak and a shallow single from Kevin Pillar, leading to the run that put them in the lead.
Pittsburgh Pirates 1 Â Miami Marlins 3:Â Jose Fernandez keeps his wonderful form, shutting out Pittsburgh in seven innings to go with six strikeouts. Gerrit Cole was part of the problem for the Pirates, with a wild pitch from him allowing a run to be scored, and digging too big of a hole.
San Francisco Giants 4 Â Atlanta Braves 0:Â Denard Span had three hits and two RBIs, Jake Peavy was one hit shy of a perfect 7-inning performance.
Chicago White Sox 6 Â New York Mets 4:Â The White Sox stop the losing, getting some nice closing work from David Robertson, and offense by Todd Frazier (home run number 16) and Tyler Saladino, both hitting two-run bombs.
St. Louis Cardinals 8 Â Milwaukee Brewers 5:Â Another big day for Matt Carpenter with four hits and two RBIs. Matt Holliday had two RBIs as well, Jedd Gyorko hit a three-run homer.
Tampa Bay Rays 5 Â Kansas City Royals 10:Â The 10th straight win for the defending World Series champs, with home runs by Lorenzo Cain and Kendrys Morales, finishing with a total of 18 hits, and scoring 7-out-of-15 times with runners in position for points.
Cincinnati Reds 4 Â Colorado Rockies 17:Â One of those days for the Rockies, blasting a franchise record (tied) 7 home runs, including two for Justin Blackmon and two for Mike Arenado, making it to 16 this season.
Detroit Tigers 9 Â Los Angeles Angels 11:Â The Angels take another game from Detroit, this time blasting Anibal Sanchez. They nearly let the lead slip away, but C.J. Cron hitting a two-run homer in the ninth for the walk-off win took care of everything. It was his second homer of the day, making it to five this season.
Minnesota Twins 4 Â Oakland Athletics 7:Â Danny Valencia hit a two-run homer in the third and then a scoring double in the fifth, twice bringing home Stephen Vogt, to grab the lead twice, the second time not slipping away from the A’s.
