Day 5 in Euro 2016 marks the completion of matchday 1 in the group stage, with Group F teams taking the stage: The aperitief with Austria vs Hungary, followed by Portugal and Iceland, as Cristiano Ronaldo embarks on the tournament.
Austria vs Hungary: Many are tagging Austria as some sort of dark horse candidates, in this group and the tournament. But maybe there’s a reason for it? With players like Marko Arnautovic and Christian Fuchs on the left side, Austria feel like they have a shot of making some sort of impact on an international tournament, something that hasn’t happened in over two generations. Hungary have Balazs Dzsudzsak and not much else. A wing player that has everything go through him, and if he’s on form, he’ll probably be able to find Laszlo Kleinheisler, although Hungary will probably will be pressed and looking to hit on counters.
Portugal vs Iceland: Iceland are exactly the kind of team Portugal have difficulties with, but as always, the presence of Cristiano Ronaldo means the Portuguese see themselves as candidates to go all the way. Ricardo Quaresma has been in fantastic form lately, and the talented yet often disappointing winger will try to leave his mark on what may be his final international tournament. For Iceland, Gylfi Sigurdsson is the key, mostly through set pieces. They might not be as negative in their approach has Northern Ireland, but just like that side, Iceland have very limited resources to succeed through possession football.
