8 Best Memes of the Los Angeles Lakers Signing Timofey Mozgov

Expectation vs Reality

The Los Angeles Lakers drew first blood, but didn’t do it very well. Meme makers have been busy making fun of their first free agency signing, Timofey Mozgov of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

It’s less about who they signed, and more about how much they paid for him, and who they didn’t get. Mozgov was signed to a four-year, $44 million contract. All this for a player who averaged 6.4 points per game last season, and played a total of 13 games and 76 minutes in the playoffs.

In the meantime, the Lakers couldn’t get a meeting with Kevin Durant, and might be losing out on other top free agents like Al Horford and Hassan Whiteside, which is probably why they overpaid for Mozgov. If he’s healthy, he’s a good center to have, but he’s not the type of player who can play a meaningful part on a contender, which is where the Lakers hope to be in two years.

Re-signing Jordan Clarkson was a good move regardless, but until Mozgov proves everyone wrong, the Lakers have a summer of being a laughing stock, as the franchise that not too long ago ruled the NBA is incapable of attracting even second tier free agents, forced to pay way too much for mediocre (at best) centers.
