The Chicago Cubs get back to their winning ways with a home run barrage against the Cincinnati Reds, the San Francisco Giants move to 2nd overall in the majors thanks to late long balls, and the Texas Rangers lose for the third straight time, not having an answer to the firepower of the Boston Red Sox.
Milwaukee Brewers 1 Â Washington Nationals 0:Â A nice pitchers duel between Junior Guerra, striking out 7 in 7.1 innings, and Max Scherzer, doing the same in six. The only difference? A Martin Maldonado home run, while the Nationals were able to connect with the ball only twice in the game.
Los Angeles Angels 2 Â Tampa Bay Rays 4:Â Matt Moore and the relief crew were good enough, while Logan Morrison hitting a solo homer and an RBI single did most of the work on offense for the Rays.
Cincinnati Reds 4 Â Chicago Cubs 10:Â The Cubs are delighted to play against a team they can actually beat, with home runs from Kris Bryant (24 this season), Willie Contreras and Addison Russell taking care of business.
Texas Rangers 5 Â Boston Red Sox 12:Â A third straight loss for the Rangers, despite a 4-1 lead in the first. Rick Porcello was hit 12 times and struck out only 3, but his offense helped him get the W, thanks to home runs by Mookie Betts, Travis Shaw, Brock Holt and Dustin Pedroia.
New York Yankees 2 Â Chicago White Sox 8:Â The White Sox win for the third straight time behind a decent start from James Shields, while both Tim Anderson and Dioner Navarro hit two-run homers.
Oakland Athletics 3 Â Minnesota Twins 1:Â After trailing heading into the 7th, the A’s turned it around with Stephen Vogt hitting an RBI single, followed by Coco Crisp with two runners coming home off his single.
Seattle Mariners 1 Â Houston Astros 2:Â A strong performance by Lance McCullers, striking out 10, while the game winning hit came from George Springer, a 449 feet home run, his 19th this season.
Pittsburgh Pirates 4 Â St. Louis Cardinals 2:Â Two good pitching performances in a row for the Pirates? That doesn’t happen often. Neither does Gregory Polanco hitting two home runs for three RBIs.
Colorado Rockies 1 Â San Francisco Giants 3:Â Jake Peavy didn’t lose control for once, while home runs from Buster Posey and Angel Pagan in the second and third innings set up the win.
Atlanta Braves 2 Â Philadelphia Phillies 8:Â Odubel Herrera and Maikel Franco both hit two-run homers, Jerad Eickhoff got the win with 7.2 innings of work and 8 strikeouts.
Miami Marlins 6 Â New York Mets 8:Â The Mets keep on rolling with a fifth consecutive win, rallying from six runs down to win the game, winning on a two-RBI double from Yoenis Cespedes in the 8th inning.
Detroit Tigers 3 Â Cleveland Indians 5:Â The Indians are back in business after some rough games against the Blue Jays. The game was tied heading into the 7th, but a two-run homer from Mike Napoli stopped their losing.
Kansas City Royals 2 Â Toronto Blue Jays 6:Â Aaron Sanchez is scorching, winning his 8th straight decisions (9-1, 2.94 ERA), as the Blue Jays win their third in a row, with Josh Donaldson and Justin Barney both picking up two RBIs.
Baltimore Orioles 5 Â Los Angeles Dodgers 7:Â The Dodgers remain hot with their 5th straight win, this time without close to shutting out their opponent. Yasiel Puig and Yasmani Grandal hit home runs early in the game, but after going down 2-5, it was Justin Turner and Howie Kendrick with a sac fly and an RBI double that won the game.
San Diego Padres 8 Â Arizona Diamondbacks 4:Â The Diamondbacks have lost 8 of their last 10, this time being extremely wasteful with 3-for-11 with runners in scoring positions. Yangervis Solarte and Derek Norris hit home runs, Luis Perdomo picked up the win.
