In day 5 of the Las Vegas Summer League, Trey Lyles of the Utah Jazz gave us the most impressive scoring performances, while Patrick McCaw on the Golden State Warriors, Tyler Ulis for the Phoenix Suns and Christian Wood for the Philadelphia 76ers had a very positive day too.
The Washington Wizards beat the Brooklyn Nets 87-85, with another strong performance by Kelly Oubre Jr., scoring 16 points. Jarell Eddie helped out with 16, while the Nets were pleased to see Rondae Hollis-Jefferson score 19 points.
The Portland Trail Blazers beat the Utah Jazz 92-89 in a double overtime game. Pat Connaughton stood out for the Blazers with 19 points, especially when he knocked down the game winning three-pointer, one of four tres for the former Notre Dame player. Trey Lyles went ballistic for the Jazz, scoring 30 points and grabbing 9 rebounds. He played bad in overtime with turnovers and mistakes, but his scoring actually got the Jazz team that far.
The Boston Celtics beat the Dallas Mavericks 88-82, led by Terry Rozier with 26 points, and getting the best from Jaylen Brown so far, as the rookie finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Justin Anderson led the Mavericks with 29 points, Jonathan Gibson helped out scoring 26.
The Miami Heat beat the Phoenix Suns 80-71, led by 16 points from Michael Carrera. Alan Williams with 18 points and Tyler Ulis with 16 stood out among the Suns. Dragan Bender scored 9 points and turned the ball over 5 times, Marquese Chriss didn’t really make an impression as well, scoring 11 points but struggling to hold on to the ball too.
The San Antonio Spurs lost 76-79 to the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls enjoyed the combination of Bobby Portis (18 points, 8 boards) and Denzel Valentine (15 points), but Valentine took 18 shots from the field. Jerian Grant scored 10 points. For the Spurs, playing without Kyle Anderson, it was Jonathan Simmons that led the way, scoring 22 points.
Golden State Warriors won against the Philadelphia 76ers 85-77. Keifer Sykes and Royce O’neale led the Warriors with 16 points each, while the Sixers had another opportunity to see what Ben Simmons knows: 8 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists. Christian Wood, trying to get a contract, scored 22 points off the bench for the Sixers.
