Major League Baseball is back after the All-Star break, giving us the San Diego Padres upsetting the San Francisco Giants, the Chicago Cubs shutting out the Texas Rangers and the Washington Nationals looking great against the Pittsburgh Pirates, and especially Stephen Strasburg, remaining undefeated in decisions this season.

Boston Red Sox 5  New York Yankees 3: One of the more active teams on the trade circuit, the Red Sox got what they were looking for from Steve Wright, followed by successful relief from Brad Ziegler. Three home runs did all of the scoring, including two-run homers for Xander Bogaerts and Travis Shaw.

Pittsburgh Pirates 1  Washington Nationals 5: Stephen Strasburg improved to 13-0 on the back of 8 innings and 6 k’s, while Michael Taylor picked up two RBIs with a two-run homer in the 7th.

New York Mets 5  Philadelphia Phillies 3: Bartolo Colon pitched for 5.2 innings to get the win, not doing especially well. Home runs from Juan Lagares and Neil Walker did most of the leg work.

Kansas City Royals 2  Detroit Tigers 4: Justin Verlander struck out 10 batters in 7 innings while the Tigers turned the game around in the 7th inning, with a home run by Tyler Collins and an infield single by Victor Martinez that won the game.

Milwaukee Brewers 4  Cincinnati Reds 5: The Brewers had a 3-1 lead in the sixth, but doubles from Adam Duvall and Tucker Barnhart swung the game in the Reds direction, capped off by Jay Bruce getting to 64 RBIs this season.

Baltimore Orioles 4  Tampa Bay Rays 3: The game was tied in the 8th inning after a comeback by the Orioles, but Jonathan Schoop finished it with his 15th home run of the season, while Mychal Givens, in relief, improved to 7-1 this season.

Texas Rangers 0  Chicago Cubs 6: A rest did the Cubs good, shutting out the Rangers with Kyle Hendricks on the mound for six innings, while Addison Russell and Matt Szczur each get a couple of RBIs.

Colorado Rockies 11  Atlanta Braves 2: Ryan Raburn scored a grand slam home run in pinch hitting duty while Jorge De La Rosa got the win, as the break didn’t seem to change anything for the Braves, getting one less hit, but finishing with 3-for-13 on scoring situations.

Cleveland Indians 5  Minnesota Twins 2: Carlos Carrasco allowed just four hits in 6.2 innings, and Mike Napoli finished strong, first by scoring off of a wild pitch, and then finishing the game with his 19th home run of the season.

Miami Marlins 7  St. Louis Cardinals 6: Trevor Rosenthal of all players blew a lead for the Cardinals, as the Marlins twice rallied from behind to beat the Cards, with a Martin Prado single tying the game for one final time, and Miguel Rojas hitting the single that won the game.

Los Angeles Dodgers 13  Arizona Diamondbacks 7: Bud Norris didn’t do a great job but still got the win, thanks to big offense from Chris Taylor, finishing with six RBIs, hitting a grand slam home run, his first overall this season, almost finishing with the cycle.

Chicago White Sox 0  Los Angeles Angels 7: Rough return to action for the White Sox, getting only 5 hits at 31 at bats, with Hector Santiago producing a 7-inning shutout with 7 k’s. Yunel Escobar and Kole Calhoun were both involved in two scoring plays.

Toronto Blue Jays 7  Oakland Athletics 8: The A’s rallied from four runs down, as the game winning score, a single by Stephen Vogt that scored Josh Reddick, reviewed by the officiating crew before being waived as a scoring run. Khris Davis hit his 20th home run of the season.

Houston Astros 7  Seattle Mariners 3: A 6-0 start for the Astros was enough to hold off the Mariners, with George Springer opening things with a home run and Carlos Correa scoring two on a double before getting home himself on a wild pitch.

San Francisco Giants 1  San Diego Padres 4: Not the kind of comeback the Giants wanted, as Madison Bumgarner gets beaten by Andrew Cashner, with both pitchers striking out 9. Matt Kemp with a third inning single gave the Padres the lead, followed by two innings and two home runs, one by Adam Rosales and the finish from Wil Myers.
