A busy day of baseball, as the Chicago Cubs take the top spot in the majors once more thanks to another win over the New York Mets and two Anthony Rizzo home runs, the St. Louis Cardinals win both of their games against the San Diego Padres with Jedd Gyorko blasing home runs in both games, and Hanley Ramirez stood out with three home runs for the Boston Red Sox in another win over the San Francisco Giants.

Atlanta Braves 3  Cincinnati Reds 6: Everyone in the Reds lineup got a hit or two. Jose Peraza, Joey Votto and Tucker Barnhart each had a couple of RBIs.

Minnesota Twins 4  Detroit Tigers 1: Justin Verlander was fantastic with 9 strikeouts in 8 innings, but Francisco Rodriguez couldn’t deliver, allowing two home runs in the 9th with the game tied at 1-1, with Max Kepler and Eddie Rosario smacking his pitches far, far away.

Cleveland Indians 11  Kansas City Royals 3: More dominance from the Indians against the defending World Series champions, with five players hitting home runs, including two by Tyler Naquin, while Carlos Carrasco allowed only one hit in his six innings performance.

San Diego Padres 2  St. Louis Cardinals 4: A good 7-inning start for Carlos Martinez didn’t stop because of a nosebleed, in a game with four home runs and nothing else. The Padres struck first, but big hits from Matt Holliday, Jedd Gyorko and Yadier Molina took care of business.

San Diego Padres 2  St. Louis Cardinals 3: In the second part of the double hetter, Jedd Gyorko hit two more home runs while Jaime Garcia got the win thanks to a long list of bullpen relievers coming to his aid.

New York Mets 2  Chicago Cubs 6: The Cubs take two of three against the Mets to show how good the AS break was for them, as the red hot Anthony Rizzo hits two home runs off Bartolo Colon, making it to 24 this season.

Tampa Bay Rays 11  Colorado Rockies 3: Chris Archer, still not traded, struck out 11 of the Rockies, struggling hard against the visiting Rays. Steve Pearce, Steven Souza and TIm Beckham each got a couple of RBIs, as the Rays won their second game in a row.

Houston Astros 7  Oakland Athletics 0: Doug Fister (10-6, 3.42 ERA) provided the 7-inning shutout, allowing only four hits, while Carlos Correa got three RBIs and George Springer helped out with two of his own.

Chicago White Sox 5  Seattle Mariners 6: The White Sox were up by three runs, but in the 7th the Mariners climbed back with a Mike Zunino home runs, tied the game in the 8th thanks to Adam Lind hitting a long ball, and won in the 11th inning, Leonys Martin getting to be the walk off hero thanks to his home run.

Toronto Blue Jays 10  Arizona Diamondbacks 4: Marcus Stroman did allow 8 hits in 8 innings, but just one run, picking up the win while Josh Donaldson hit his 24th home run of the season, Edwin Encarnacion topped that with his 26th.

San Francisco Giants 7  Boston Red Sox 11: The NL West leaders are on a five-game losing streak, succumbing to three home runs by Hanley Ramirez, each one of them a two-run homer, helping the Red Sox take over first in the division.

Baltimore Orioles 0  New York Yankees 5: The Yankees have won four in a row, the Orioles lost four in a row, as Michael Pineda shuts out the Orioles with 8 strikeouts, followed by Dellin Betances and some good bullpen work. Mark Teixeira hit his 8th home run of the season, trade-bound Carlos Beltran hit his 20th, unless the Yankees think that six games behind isn’t too much.

Los Angeles Dodgers 1  Washington Nationals 8: Rough day for the Dodgers and Bud Norris on the mound, as Bryce Harper hit a home run that went 449 feet, the longest hit at Nationals Park. The Dodgers had 4 hits in the game, three of them against starter Gio Gonzalez.

Miami Marlins 1  Philadelphia Phillies 4: Jeremy Hellickson, maybe playing his last game for the Phillies, struck out 8 in 8 innings against the team he might end up playing for, and Tyler Goeddel hit his fourth home run of the season.

Milwaukee Brewers 9  Pittsburgh Pirates 5: Jeff Locke had only three innings before the Pirates had enough, while Jonathan Lucroy finished with 3 RBIs and Chris Carter added a couple of his own.

Texas Rangers 4  Los Angeles Angels 7: The Angels have now won six in a row, the Rangers lost three. A three run homer from Jefry Marte gave the Angels enough of a cushion for the rest of the game, not letting the big hits from Ian Desmond and Mitch Moreland stop their win from happening.
