2016 MLB Season – Trade Deadline Day Deals

Lucroy

A very busy day, as expected, with the Texas Rangers getting Jonathan Lucroy, the Toronto Blue Jays landing Francisco Liriano, and the New York Mets trading for Jay Bruce, standing out among a horde of deals, some more surprising than others.

Baltimore Orioles: Added infielder Steve Pearce from the Rays for prospect Jonah Heim, and added starting pitcher Wade Miley from the Mariners for Ariel Miranda from the minor leagues.

Boston Red Sox: After doing most of their shopping early in the summer, they did add Fernando Abad from the Twins to help the bullpen, sending Pat Light the other way.

New York Yankees: An insanely busy week for them, sending Andrew Miller to the Indians for outfielder Clint Frazier and pitchers Justus Sheffield, Ben Heller and J.P. Feyereisen; Aroldis Chapman to the Cubs, getting reliever Adam Warren and prospects Gleyber Torres, Billy McKinney and Rashad Crawford. Carlos Beltran was dealt to the Rangers, getting righties Dillon Tate (the fourth overall pick in last year’s draft), Erik Swanson and Nick Green in return. They also got Tyler Clippard from the Arizona Diamondbacks to fill in bullpen voids, while also shipping out Ivan Nova to the Pirates.

Tampa Bay Rays: Finally dealt starting pitcher Matt Moore, sending him to the Giants, getting Matt Duffy and two prospects in return. They traded Brandon Guyer to the Indians for two minor leaguers as well.

Francisco Liriano

Toronto Blue Jays: Added starting pitcher Francisco Liriano from the Pirates, along with two prospects, in return for Drew Hutchison. The added Scott Feldman from the Astros, Mike Bolsinger from the Dodgers, Joaquin Benoit from the Mariners and Melvin Upton Jr. from the Padres.

Atlanta Braves: Got Matt Kemp from the San Diego Padres while making other minor league deals.

Miami Marlins: Added Andrew Cashner and Tayron Guerrero to help their pitching situation, all from the Padres.

Jay Bruce Hit

New York Mets: Added Jay Bruce from the Cincinnati Reds, sending Dilson Herrera and Max Wotell in return. They got Jon Niese back from the Pirates, sending Antonio Bastardo to Pittsburgh.

Washington Nationals: Made one potential key move: Adding Mark Melancon from the Pirates to help their bullpen, sending Felipe Rivero and Taylor Hearn the other way.

Chicago Cubs: Besides getting Chapman from the Yankees, the Cubs also traded for Joe Smith of the Angels, sending Jesus Castillo in return.

Cincinnati Reds: By trading Bruce away, they received Herrera and Wotell, ending up being their only deal in the final week approaching the deadline.

Milwaukee Brewers: Were all about selling. Lucroy to the Mets (eventually), and also shipping out reliever Will Smith to the Giants.

Pittsburgh Pirates: Acquired Bastardo from the Mets and Nova from the Yankees, while shipping out Liriano, Niese and Melancon.

St. Louis Cardinals: Not very active, but did trade for lefty Zach Duke of the White Sox, shipping minor league outfield Charlie Tilson to Chicago.

Arizona Diamondbacks: Their only meaningful move was sending Tyler Clippard to the Yankees.

Rich Hill

Los Angeles Dodgers: Very busy on the final day, acquiring Josh Reddick and Rich Hill from the A’s, got Jesse Chavez from the Blue Jays and reliever Josh Fields from the Astros.

San Diego Padres: All about selling, sending Matt Kemp, Cashner, Guerrero and Upton.

San Francisco Giants: Acquired Matt Moore from the Rays, Will Smith from the Brewers and Eduardo Nunez from the Twins.

Chicago White Sox: Out of moves, they only dealt Duke to the Cardinals, not getting much in return.

Brandon Guyer

Cleveland Indians: Very aggressive, landing Miller from the Yankees and outfielder Guyer from the Rays.

Kansas City Royals: Made one move, sending Brett Eibner to Oakland in return for Billy Burns in an outfielder swap.

Minnesota Twins: Added Hector Santiago from the Angels, giving up on Ricky Nolasco and Alex Meyer. They send Abad to the Red Sox for Pat Light, and Nunez to the Giants for Adalberto Mejia.

Houston Astros: Sent Feldman to the Blue Jays for minor leaguer Lupe Chavez, and also traded reliever Josh Fields to the Dodgers in return for Yordan Alvarez.

Los Angeles Angels: Added Nolasco and Meyer from the Twins, and prospect Jesus Castillo from the Cubs in return for Joe Smith.

Oakland Athletics: Sending Hill and Reddick to the Dodgers, they received Grant Holmes, Frankie Montas and Jharel Cotton in return.

Seattle Mariners: Mostly about dumping players, including sending Wade Miley to the Orioles and Benoit to the Blue Jays, getting Drew Storen in return.

Texas Rangers: Busy day, landing Jonathan Lucroy from the Brewers for outfielder Lewis Brinson, righty Luis Ortiz and one more player. They also added Beltran from the Yankees, or righties Dillon Tate, Erik Swanson and Nick Green. They also brought in Lucas Harrell Dario Alvarez from the Braves, sending minor league infielder Travis Demeritte the other way.
