The Cleveland Indians finally stopped losing to the Minnesota Twins, and just in time with the Detroit Tigers beaten by the Chicago White Sox. The Texas Rangers got some distance from the Houston Astros while beating the Baltimore Orioles, now tied with the Toronto Blue Jays in the AL East. In the National League, the San Francisco Giants maintain their small lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Minnesota Twins 2 Â Cleveland Indians 9:Â The AL Central leaders finally beat the thorn in their side, with home runs from Jason Kipnis, Carlos Santana, Francisco Lindor and Jose Ramirez. Mike Clevinger started and was pulled before the end of the fifth inning; Dan Otero in a clinical relief stint got the win.
Kansas City Royals 2 Â Tampa Bay Rays 3:Â More losing for the Royals, this time giving up a three-run homer in the 8th after Alex Gordon’s two-run homer lasted four innings. Brad Miller bombed his 19th home run of the season, while Drew Smyly struck out 10 batters without getting the win.
St. Louis Cardinals 0 Â Cincinnati Reds 7:Â The Reds held the Cardinals to just five hits, with Brandon Finnegan doing it for six innings and shutting the Cardinals out. Two singles by Ramon Cabrera earned him three RBIs, while three hits from Brandon Phillips resulted in three runs.
San Francisco Giants 3 Â Philadelphia Phillies 2:Â A win that keeps the Giants two games ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers, beating the Phillies on a walk off homer in the 10th inning by Denard Span, who also had an RBI earlier with a sacrifice fly.
Chicago White Sox 6 Â Detroit Tigers 3:Â Home runs by Avisail Garcia and Jose Abreu did most of the work for the White Sox, while the Tigers only got going when they were too far behind to catch up.
Texas Rangers 5 Â Baltimore Orioles 3:Â The Rangers open a 6.5 game lead in the AL West, while erasing the Orioles lead in the AL East. After four runs entering the fifth, the Orioles came back with three home runs, including number 31 this season for Mark Trumbo. With only one run of a lead, the Rangers got Rougned Odor to hit a doubler that made sure the Orioles lost all momentum and hope.
Oakland Athletics 8  Los Angeles Angels 6: The two teams combined for 25 hits, but the bottom feeders of the AL West parted when the A’s got two RBIs in the 10th inning, first a double by Yonder ALonso and then a single by Marcus Semien. Ryan Dull picked up the save.
New York Mets 4  New York Yankees 1: The Mets win a second straight game, getting separation thanks to Jay Bruce hitting a three run homer, his 26th of the season and his first for the new team. Bartolo Colon wasn’t sharp in 6.2 innings of work, but still got the win.
Pittsburgh Pirates 2 Â Atlanta Braves 5:Â Ryan Vogelsong held the Braves to just three hits in six innings, but things fell apart when Felipe Rivero went on the mound. Adonis Garcia scored on a throwing error by Jung Ho Kang, and Jeff Francoeur hit a single, opening a two run lead. David Freese hit a home run to make it 3-2, but Nick Markakis made sure the win wouldn’t slip away.
Toronto Blue Jays 4 Â Houston Astros 1:Â The Blue Jays are now level with the Orioles on top of the AL East, as J.A. Happ wins his 9th straight start. He struck out 6 in 6 innings, while Edwin Encarnacion hit his 30th home run of the season, as the Blue Jays scored their first two runs without actually getting a hit.
Los Angeles Dodgers 4 Â Colorado Rockies 2:Â The Dodgers stay within touching distance of the Giants (2 games behind), leaning on a good 5.2 innings start from Kenta Maeda. Corey Seager hit his 19th home run of the season, Yasmani Grandal hit an RBI triple, and Kenley Jansen closed the deal.
Boston Red Sox 3 Â Seattle Mariners 2:Â The Red Sox opened with two runs, but the Mariners responded with two runs of their own in the fifth inning, including the first home run this season by Shawn O’Malley. The game went into extra innings, and Brock Holt hit an RBI single in the 11th inning to win the game. Drew Pomeranz, allowing two runs and four hits in six innings, had his best start since joining Boston.
