The Chicago Cubs shutout the Oakland A’s to keep their league-wide dominance, and the Los Angeles Dodgers shut out the Boston Red Sox, as all three AL East contenders lost on the same day. The San Francisco Giants held the Washington Nationals to just one run, and the Cleveland Indians bounced back from their previous loss, beating the New York Yankees.

Chicago Cubs 4  Oakland Athletics 0: Jake Arrieta holds the A’s scoreless in 8 innings of work, giving up only three hits (four in total for Oakland). Ben Zobrist had a couple of RBIs, and the Cubs have lost just one game in their last 10.

Cleveland Indians 5  New York Yankees 2: Corey Kluber gives up 5 hits while striking out 8 in 8 innings of work, as the Yankees score twice in the 2nd inning but were never heard from again. Rajai Davis hit a home run and an RBI single, Mike Napoli had his 28th of the season, and Jason Kipnis also participated in the home run party.

Boston Red Sox 0  Los Angeles Dodgers 3: Ross Strpiling set the shutout tone with five innings and only four hits allowed, while the offense of A.J. Ellis, Corey Seager and Adrian Gonzalez did the rest of the work.

Minnesota Twins 3  Tampa Bay Rays 7: Chris Archer allowed three hits while striking out 7 batters, getting plenty of run support, especially long range support as Evan Longoria hits home run number 24 this season, one of three homers by the Rays in the game.

San Francisco Giants 7  Washington Nationals 1: The Giants maintain their 2 game lead over the Dodgers in the division, as Eduardo Nunez hits a double and two triples to score three runs, Matt Cain picks up the win on the mound, and Buster Posey finished with a team high two RBIs.

Cincinnati Reds 3  Pittsburgh Pirates 5: Ivan Nova throws 7 innings to get his first win with the Pirates, while Starling Marte stands out with a couple of RBIs, as the Pirates move to two games behind the Cardinals and the Wild Card spot.

Baltimore Orioles 2  Chicago White Sox 4: Omar Narvaez hitting a popup that was overturned from a foul to a run, as pinch runner J.B. Shuck made it home. This game the White Sox the lead in the 7th inning, followed by Adam Eaton hitting a home run, keeping things tight in the AL East.

New York Mets 5  Detroit Tigers 6: The Detroit Tigers improve their Wild Card position and keep the pressure on the Indians with the win, almost letting a 6-1 lead slip away from them, as J.D. Martinez delivered a great throw to take out Jay Bruce on the final play of the game.

Texas Rangers 3  Houston Astros 2: Jonathan Lucroy hit two home runs and Adrian Beltre hit an RBI single as the Rangers get one back at the Astros, leading them by 6.5 games in the AL West.

Toronto Blue Jays 2  Kansas City Royals 4: The Blue Jays missed out on a big opportunity to take the AL East lead, as Aaron Sanchez lost after 10 straight wins on the mound. Danny Duffy struck out 6 in 6.2 innings, and the Royals bounced back from a rough start, especially due to Eric Hosmer hitting a two-RBI single in the 5th to grab the lead.

Atlanta Braves 13  St. Louis Cardinals 5: The Braves hit four home runs with at least one runner on base, including a three run homer for Freddie Freeman and a similar one by Adonis Garcia, while the Cardinals finished with just 2-for-12 with runners in scoring positions.

Miami Marlins 6  Colorado Rockies 12: Giancarlo Stanton did hit the longest home run of the season, but the Rockies had 17 hits on the day, with Justin Blackmon, who also hit his 13th homer of the season, picking up 4 RBIs as Andrew Cashner struggled making a difference.

Milwaukee Brewers 15  Arizona Diamondbacks 6: Ryan Braun had a huge day with two home runs and 7 RBIs, as the Diamondbacks didn’t get on the board until the 7th inning, when they already had a nine run margin to cover.

Philadelphia Phillies 7  San Diego Padres 9: The Phillies scoring three runs in the final inning wasn’t enough after falling too far behind, as Yangervis Solarte and Christian Bethancourt each had 3 RBIs, including two doubles for the catcher.

Los Angeles Angels 6  Seattle Mariners 8: The Mariners remain in the Wild Card picture (4.5 games behind) with a second consecutive win, erasing the lead and taking it into their hands with a 7th inning home run by Shawn O’Malley, one of three homers by the Mariners in this game.
