Manny Machado home run

The Chicago Cubs keep on winning with Kyle Hendricks pitching gems, the San Francisco Giants lose in a pitching duel to the Washington Nationals and allow the Los Angeles Dodgers to get closer, while the Baltimore Orioles enjoy a rare home run display by Manny Machado to separate from the Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox, both losing.

Cleveland Indians 2  New York Yankees 3: The Indians lose for the second time in three games to the Yankees, this time struggling to get anything past Masahiro Tanaka, striking out 8 in six innings. Didi Gregorius hit a solo home run and soon to be retired Mark Teixeira hit an RBI double, while Carlos Carrasco didn’t get enough support to turn a 9-k performance into a win.

Chicago Cubs 3  Oakland Athletics 1: Kyle Hendricks allowed just three hits in 7.1 innings of work, while home runs from Kris Bryant, Jorge Soler and an Anthony Rizzo RBI double helped the Cubs get the job done.

New York Mets 3  Detroit Tigers 1: The game was scoreless until the 7th inning. Michael Conforto put the Mets on top with a home run, Ian Kinsler hit an RBI single to tie the game. Then, in the 9th, Neil Walker hit a two-run homer off of Francisco Rodriguez to win the game, his 19th of the season.

Minnesota Twins 6  Tampa Bay Rays 3: Miguel Sano picked up four RBIs on two home runs, including a three-run homer off of Matt Andriese. Tommy Milone impressed in his relief inning, striking out a couple of batters.

San Francisco Giants 0  Washington Nationals 1: Tanner Roark shut out the Giants in 7 innings of work, also striking out 5. Madison Bumgarner was fantastic, giving up only two hits, but one of them was a solo home run by Wilson Ramos in the 7th, enough to win the game. The Giants are now just one game above the Dodgers.

Cincinnati Reds 7  Pittsburgh Pirates 3: Billy Hamilton had 3 hits and 3 runs, with Brandon Phillips having a couple of RBI, Adam Duvall and Joey Votto driving in runners as well. Dan Straily allowed just 3 hits in 6 innings, picking up the win.

Baltimore Orioles 10  Chicago White Sox 2: Manny Machado hit three home runs in three innings, as the Orioles had a 10-0 lead by the third inning. James Shields was pulled after 1.1 innings, with J.J. Hardy and Chris Davis hitting home runs as well. Dylan Bundy struck out 9 in his start.

Texas Rangers 5  Houston Astros 3: The Rangers held a 3-2 lead as the game went into the 9th inning, but Tony Kemp, with three hits on the day, hit a single sending the game to extra innings. In the 11th, Ian Desmond hit an RBI single to take the lead, followed by a Rougned Odor RBI double to finish the job.

Toronto Blue Jays 1  Kansas City Royals 7: The Royals help the Orioles create some distance in the AL East, with home runs by Alcides Escobar and Kendrys Morales, while Yordano Ventura struck out 4 in 6.2 innings of work.

Atlanta Braves 6  St. Louis Cardinals 3: Adam Wainwright got clobbered by the Braves, as Nick Markakis and Erick Aybar both finished with a couple of RBIs. Jim Johnson provided the save with two strikeouts in the final inning.

Los Angeles Angels 1  Seattle Mariners 3: The Mariners have won 3 in a row, taking 2nd place in the AL West, and only 3.5 games out of the Wild Card game. James Paxton struck out 6 in 8.1 innings, giving up only  5 hits. Nelson Cruz, Leonys Martin and Mike Freeman did the rest.

Miami Marlins 10  Colorado Rockies 7: Two home runs and 5 RBIs by Nolan Arenado weren’t enough for the Rockies, giving up another home run (two-run) to Giancarlo Stanton, and 17 hits overall, including 3 to Jeff Mathis and Christian Yelich, both finishing the game with 3 RBIs.

Milwaukee Brewers 3  Arizona Diamondbacks 9: A rare game of the Diamondbacks actually coming from behind to win a game, with Archie Bradley striking out 8 in the win but leaving before the end of the fifth. Jake Lamb hit his 24th home run of the season, and Phil Gosselin hit a two-run homer in a pinch hit appearance.

Philadelphia Phillies 6  San Diego Padres 5: The Phillies pulled off the first triple play in Petco Park thanks to some daring from Maikel Franco, coming after the Phillies took the lead for good off of a Tommy Joseph RBI single.

Boston Reds Sox 5  Los Angeles Dodgers 8: Rob Sedegin made his major league debut, setting a Dodgers record with 4 RBIs, helping them move to just one game behind the Giants. Adrian Gonzalez, Justin Turner and Enrique Hernandez hit home runs, using 7 pitchers to win the game, including a three-strikeout save inning by Kenley Jansen.
